Here comes everybody (clay shirky) p91-3

“fame is simply an imbalance between inbound and outbound attention, more arrows pointing in than out”

Conditions
1. Attention from at least thousands
2. Unable to reciprocate

- even without the technological limit of TV’s inability for two way interactivity, it still wouldnt be possible to reciprocate the attention due to cognitive limits, thus an imbalance we call fame…blogs and email dont have this limit (they are two way), yet this does not help in balancing attention “the limits on interaction that come with scale are hard to detect, because every visible aspect of the system stays the same” “someone writing for thousands of people, though, or millions, has to start choosing who to respond to and who to ignore, and over time, ignore becomes the default choice. They have, in a word, become famous” …scale alone, even in a medium that allows for two-way communication, is enough to create and sustain the imbalance of fame. The mere technological possibility of reply isnt enough to overcome the human limits of attention”
